Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro are two of the greatest swordsmen in Japanese history.
Ganryujima Island is famous for a duel which took place between these two legendary swordsmen.
With a circumference of 1.6km, this small island’s highlights include a pair of statues depicting the duel along with Ganryujima Island Literature Monument, and an artificial beach evoking scenes of the duel.
Boats to the island depart from Karato Pier, located near Karato Market and Kanmon Wharf, and Mojiko Pier, located near Mojiko Station.
On-board announcements provide passengers with an introduction to the history of Ganryujima and the scenery on both sides of the shore.
