Constructed in 1931, the three story wooden building still stands and is one of the largest traditional ryotei Japanese restaurants in Kyushu. Currently has a free of charge display area where you can visit and get in touch with Japanese history. A feature is the 100 tatami mat room on the second floor. This huge space was once a venue for dancing and noh theater, and boasts the most advanced building technology of the time. The beautiful detailed decorations and various patterns on the partitions are something to see. Just below the stage are kame storage pots to enhance acoustics. The building also features the Sankiro Tea Ceremony House, which you can use to enjoy coffee and sweets during the day. Reservations required for the specialty of the house – the Fugu (blow fish) Course.
