Wakamatsu Minami Kaigan-dori Street overlooking Wakato Bridge is a retro promenade where modern architecture from the Taisho period remains.
The Former Furukawa Mining, Wakamatsu Bldg. can be called a symbol of the street and is a Renaissance-style building constructed in 1919.
Though at one point consideration was given to tearing it down, preservation and repair construction took place and it was renewed in 2004 as a central facility for exchange, culture, and tourism.
The exterior brick construction is lovely and appears even more attractive when illuminated at night.
Nearby are the Ueno Bldg. housing cafes and variety shops, Tochiki Bldg. , Former Gonzo Shed, and Sekitan Hall. Visitors can enjoy a stroll into the past that brings to mind the Wakamatsu of yesteryear.
