Moji Red Brick Place

History and historic sites / See / Play

These impressive red brick buildings were built in 1912 as the Imperial Brewery. It commenced brewing in April 1913, and in July it entered the world of beer with the announcement of Sakura Beer. The company changed names to Dai Nippon Beer, then Nippon Beer , and was Sapporo Beer’s Kyushu brewery until 2000, a centerpiece of the Moji economy. After 87 years of brewing it closed its doors, and subsequently reopened as a center for restaurants and galleries. It is popular as a tourist destination and venue for events, and is used as a location for movies and TV filming. The Café de Brique can be found inside the building, with its charming interior featuring brewery brick walls, German beer barrels, and brewing kegs.
