    The Library was designed by Isozaki Arata, one of Japan’s most renowned architects, and completed in 1974. It has the exterior and interior curves that are often a feature of Isozaki’s works, and has been used as a filming location for movies. When you enter the library the arched ceiling supported by curvaceous beams draw your attention. Choose from 500,000 books. In the general section are numerous novels and practical books, and you can find specialist books and materials in the Kitakyushu Repository. Study rooms are also available. In addition there is a mother-and-child library and an audio-visual center. It’s a great way to relax and spend your day.

    West Japan General Exhibition Center is only a 5 minute walk from JR Kokura Station North Exit.

    The center consists of two buildings: the Main Building, which has an area of 7,000m2, and the New Building, which has an area of 8,000m2. Both buildings provide a vast open space that can be divided into partitions according to the nature of the event.  The kinds of events held here include anything from entertainment, such as game or character shows, to trade fairs, exhibitions, bazaars, fairs, and flea markets. The 3rd floor of AIM also has an exhibition hall and meeting rooms.

    For some events, stalls are also set up in the space between both buildings, and the whole area becomes bustling with visitors.

  • 07. 北九州国際会議場

    Support for international events in an impressive building inspired by the sea

    Kitakyushu International Conference Center is the core facility in the International Convention Zone, located in close proximity to JR Kokura Station North Exit.

    This innovative building, inspired by a ship’s bridge and choppy waves, was designed by Isozaki Arata, one of Japan’s most world-renowned architects.

    The wall facing the sea is made of glass, creating a wide open space that incorporates the maritime scenery. The Main Hall and International Meeting Room are equipped with facilities for simultaneous interpreting in 4 languages.

    The center plays host to international conferences and meetings, and its small and medium-sized meeting rooms can be used for other corporate and private events.
